Tamara Mellon comes from London, England and on 7th July this year she will turn 43. She is best known as the person behind Jimmy Choo brand of designer footwear. Prior to her professional career, she studied in Berkshire as well as Beverly Hills and Switzerland. She always had a taste for fashion and got into PR for Mirabella before becoming an accessories editor for Vogue (UK Edition) at the beginning of the last decade of the last century.
It is her position there that made her make contact with Mr Jimmy Choo and suggest to him that they can create and produce footwear that is available to the general audience. This idea proved successful and she started off with Jimmy Choo Co along with Mr Jimmy Choo. Initial capital was given to her by her dad and using her contacts, she opened a business space in Italy as the shoes would be made there.
At the beginning of this century, high end names in fashion were on their customer list and this brought in over half of all sales and profits. However that same year, the partnership between Tamara and Jimmy came to an end and she continued working with Jimmy's relative Sandra Choi. As soon as this was heard, everyone wanted Jimmy Choos for themselves. Couple of years later, majority of the shares in the company were bought by Hicks Muse but Tamara remained at the top.
1st ever shop available to general public came to life in Knightsbridge in London in '96 and now there count more than 35 shops scattered all over the world. The footwear was further made popular as the starlets in Hollywood were seen wearing them. Tamara Mellon made it to the list of richest people in UK as well as one of the richest females in her homeland.
On a personal front, when the time came for her to get hitched, she did it 10 years ago to Matthew Taylor Mellon and produced one baby girl, but the union lasted only 5 years and sadly they went their separate ways. Apart from being involved in her business, she can also be seen attending New Enterprise Council who have ties in politics with Conservative Party.
