Ion and made her acting debut in the 1995 movie "The Walking Dead". In 2000, Overman was cast as Gabriela Garza in the daytime soap opera General Hospital, a character who also appeared in the General Hospital spinoff Port Charles. Overman left the role in 2002.

From 2005 to 2006, Ion starred in the short-lived UPN sitcom "Love Inc". Overman has also made guest appearances in numerous television shows and movies, including "Desperate Housewives", "CSI: Miami", "The L Word", "Beverly Hills, 90210" and "Without a Trace".

Overman has starred in the 2006 movie Phat Girlz and was Linda, Josh's (Derek Luke) stuck-up fiance in Tyler Perry's 2009 movie "Madea Goes to Jail".
