Alana Dante was born as Christel Hoogewijs on December 1, 1969. She is a Belgian singer. Even in the early years of her childhood she started to show interest in music and appear to have a natural talent for it. Once she turned 12 years old, she was sent to a music academy where she was to perfect her singing skills, as well as to learn how to play the violin.

She attended the academy for eight years, meanwhile often performing at clubs and karaoke bars in her homeland. Some of her earliest work and a starting point in her professional career was her version of the song "Think Twice", originally sung by Celine Dion. As one of the tracks on her first album "Breaking Out", this single came out in 1997 and just a year later in 1998, she had her big breakthrough with the hit titled "Take Me for a Ride". Soon after she released another single titled "Life of the Party" which became an even greater hit. With the success of these singles it was decided that a full album should be released. The idea was followed through and her second album "Disco-Suppa-Girl" hit the shelves in 1998.

In 1999 she was part of the Eurovision Song Festival and got past the semifinals with the song "Get Ready for the Sunsand". Even though she didn't end up winning the contest, her single "Get Ready for the Sunsand" became hugely popular in Belgium and even ended up as #1 on the charts. In 1999 she released the single "Saturday Baby" and at the end of the same year another one called "Don't Wanna Give You Up" which also achieved reasonable success. In 2008 she released her third album "As Time Goes By". She was part of a sex scandal when a compromising tape of her ended up on the internet.
